about

Our music is made of very heterogeneous elements. With sampling, various forms of wave synthesis, filters, it is now possible to create a virtually limitless library of sounds and use them freely. Every musician now has that opportunity. An unexpected new challenge has arisen - how to organize this sea of information? What reductive mechanisms, methods of working with the material should be included? How might they work? Our duo was born, perhaps by consciously solving these problems.

The release material was recorded in the winter of '21 studio with the preceding discussion about timbral reduction of material and other ways of artistic self-limitation. For example, exploiting in the work not only the timbral functions of the material, but also the rhythmic functions. The transition from irrational rhythmics and its complete absence to complex rhythms, to polyrhythmics. Work with quotations (we used only our own material), an increased attention to the interaction of structures, etc.

Alexey and Felix used their usual toolkit in this work: sampling, digital electronics, board-specific hardware synthesis and no-input-mixing.

The idea of discordia concors emphasized belief in a hidden order and unity behind the world’s apparent chaos. Composers of Ars Nova motets placed particular emphasis on subtle patterning that unified and reconditely organized the heterogeneous surface of their work.
